Saturday 24 October 2026
ON-SITE AND ONLINE
with Tim McKibben

We hope you can join us for our next one day retreat on Saturday 24 October.
As Shantideva said โWhy worry about something if it can be remedied? And what is the use in worrying about something if it canโt be remedied?โ
Amidst the hectic pressures of modern life, stress levels can rise and worry set in. Anxiety feels unpleasant, is detrimental to health and steals happiness and joy from our life.
Meditation creates a fresh perspective that helps with unhappy states of mind. The Buddha taught many methods, tried and tested over thousands of years, to help alleviate emotional difficulties such as anger, loneliness, worry and depression.
With practice, we can find our inner strength and learn to deal more effectively with anxiety. Deeply relaxing the mind and body, cultivating self-acceptance and reframing our view of self, others and the world, all lead to a more joyful and enlightened perspective.
During this one day retreat we will explore meditations used to develop mindfulness, calm abiding, emotional resilience and loving kindness as well as the special methods to transform any difficulty into a positive learning experience. Building this inner toolkit allows us to face the future with confidence.
Eventually, with sustained practice, we will gain the joyful peace and stability of the Bodhisattvas: just as storms above donโt disturb the still depths of an ocean, likewise their minds are not troubled by any problem whatsoever.
Meditation is widely recognised as supporting good mental health. However, the methods presented in this retreat are not intended as a substitute for any professional mental health services or treatment that a person may be receiving.
We look forward to welcoming you to our October one-day retreat, to be led by Tim McKibben. Tim is a long-time student of the Society’s founder and spiritual guide, Venerable Geshe Acharya Thubten Loden.
